What could New York Jets’ LaDainian Tomlinson be possibly up to? Part 1
New York Jets' running back, LaDainian Tomlinson's future appears to be too vague, with the player contemplating retirement on one hand, while intending on switching sides on the other.
That also includes the recent strides he has taken at the Jets’ coach Rex Ryan and the general manager holding them responsible for the tense environment in Jets' locker room.
Tomlinson had already made himself clear that he wanted to be in a winning situation and in a team that would make it to the Super Bowl.
This very much could have been the reason why he changed his team earlier on, two years back, preferring Jets over San Diego Chargers, with whom he spent nine seasons.
The Jets side seemed to offer a better potential to Tomlinson of reaching the playoffs.
That points out to Tomlinson being an opportunistic.
However, Tomlinson's impressive career does suggest he deserves a lot more.
He has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times and has also been the recipient of NFL MVP award.
Super Bowl is the only big event he has not been a part of and that makes him crave for an opportunity to be part of a Super Bowl event.
So with the Jets season having ended without reaching the playoffs, Tomlinson would surely be intent on switching sides again.
What appeared new after the Jets suffered a season ending 19-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins was his decision to contemplate retirement for the first time in his career. That is what he said at that time.
"I am contemplating retirement. That's what I told my coaches and told my agent and everybody. That's exactly what it is. This is the first time in my playing career that I've actually honestly thought about this may be it for me." Tomlinson said.
Though he said that he would come up with a decision after viewing the situation, he has still not come up with one after weeks.
Tomlinson, thus currently has an important decision pending. He has to decide whether he is retiring or not and in case he does not retire, would he be changing sides.
His status with the Jets is quite unclear. He had a two-year contract with the Jets which would be over this year. Tomlinson earlier on had been unsure whether the Jets wanted him or not but had been pretty much adamant that he could still deliver maintaining
that he could still do a lot for any team he played for.
There exists a strong possibility that Tomlinson may end up with the Chargers again. During his nine year stay with the chargers’ team, the 32-year-old player had 12,490 yards of rushing while he scored 138 touchdowns.
Tomlinson said weeks earlier that he would consider an opportunity to play with the Chargers if it came along. He had stated that he would explore the option of playing with any team and would consult his family and agent in this regard.
"Yeah. Absolutely would consider it. I would consider all teams. I'm going to listen to it and talk to the family about it. That doesn’t mean I would take that offer, but I would consider it.” Tomlinson said.
However, he has not come up with any final decision so far, whether it is about retirement or a change in team.
To be continued......
