I have a couple small ones and a couple big ones. since I'm 18 they did a ultrasound. He said nothing showed up on the ultrasound but theres definitely something there so he's gonna send me to a specialist and said they might consider doing a biopsy.

I know at my age it would be extremely rare to have something like cancer so thats not what I'm thinking. I'm just wondering what it could be if its something that didn't show on the ultrasound.

  1. I don’t think it is something unusual it is most likely a benign tumor or fibroadenoma, they are very common. It probably didn’t show up on ultrasound due to your age. If you were older your doctor would have had a mammogram done, but they are useless on someone your age. When you are young the breast tissue is very dense making it impossible to see anything on a mammogram and ultrasound is the next best choice, but sometimes they can’t see anything with that either.

There is a condition called LCIS (lobular carcinoma in-situ) that is a non-invasive cancer really more like an indictor for cancer occurring later in either breast, which often does not show up on either exam regardless of age. LCIS would be rare for someone your age however.
