  1. A down payment for a house. A letter welcoming your daughter-in-law to the family. Something simple and thoughtful.

Something either tangible or intangible that shows you love your daughter and you want to help them as a married couple.

I was against my guests buying me or my husband anything. We asked for donations to our future house fund, or for those who had to get us something, we asked for gift certificates to stores we frequent the most for groceries and household items.

  2. How about paying to have their portaits taken outside somewhere beautiful before their wedding?  Then you could have it framed for them.  My brother and his wife did this for themselves when they got engaged...and had a beautiful picture taken at a local winery they liked.  They enlarged it to about 14x20 (or larger)  and then matted and framed it.  Then it was signed by everyone at the wedding. Then they had a glass put on it.  Today their beautiful picture hangs in their living room as a constant reminder of their love and the wishes of their friends.  For you, people that meant something special to them could sign it at a pre-wedding party. This would be a very special gift where you could write a very special "welcome" as well as everyone else.  Blessings.
