I have a male and female betta fish, and the female won't mate with the male. He chases her for an hour and she won't give in. I take her out after an hour so she won't get too bashed up. I tried to mate them about three times. I am thinking about getting another female. What are you thoughts?

  1. Maybe she doesen't like him.

  2. I just recently got a Betta and do not have a ton of experience with them, but they aren't usually supposed to be together, even male and females.

I think from what I've heard is that the male will prepare a bubble nest when he is ready to mate.

What gallon tank do you have them in, since that could also be a factor?

And if they do mate, be prepared to care for 100-500 possible babies.

  3. They can get picky you may need to get another female. The water conditions have to suit the fish. The male will build a bubble nest, maybe you could put them where they can see each other.,only for a day ot two,but not together. It is not easy to get Betta's breeding sometimes but so worth it when you do.Good luck!

  4. if the water parameters arnt PERFECT they wont breed...

a happy male will build a bubblenest even without a female presnet.

check your parameters with a GOOD liquid test kit.
