Question:

What could be causing my 3 year old to say her head hurts?

She has had a low grade fever for about 4 days and a cough. Other then that she acts fine. She said that her head hurt on Tuesday of this week and again today. I just feel like she is a little young to be complaining about a headache. Has anyone else experienced this? We have already been to the Dr. to check her ears and checked her for strep, both were ok. She said that her glands in her throat were a little swollen. Please serious answers, I am not looking to not take my child to a doctor, just some other moms experience. Thank you!

  1. Maybe it does hurt. Yah know, she could have a signise headache. Oh yeah, those hurt!

  2. i'd say ear infection but it sounds like your doc already checked that part. she's probably coming down with something. head cold perhaps? that always makes my head hurt.

i wouldn't be too concerned at this point. sometimes kids this age can't really explain exactly what it is that hurts and "how" it hurts. a fever would explain her head hurting, fevers aren't nice.

you know what to do already, you sound like you really have a good perspective of these things. i.e. had it checked by a doc but aren't freaking out.

just watch her and push the fluids. any neck pain, dangerously high fever or anything else alarming and straight back to the doc.

hope your little one feels better soon!

  3. My son says that too, but usually when he has the hiccups, he doesn't understand. Sometimes, when I know I have sinus issues and he comes and tells me I know it is just sinuses. I hope I helped.

  4. Could it be sinus headaches, just a thought i have been bothered by headaches my whole life. I remember complaining as young as 5 about them. If it keeps one thing you can do is keep a log of how often she says her head hurts and ask her if its a certain part that hurts like if its the forehead area or the eyes ect. That way you have something to show the doctor to help them decide on what might help her. Hope it works out.

  5. Dehydration?  That's the only reason my kids complain of headaches.  Also, maybe if her head is feeling a bit stuffy, she has no other way to explain the weird feeling.  I'd suggest regular Tylenol and maybe a cold compress for her forehead.  And lots of water and TLC :)

  6. ear ache

  7. Well if you had a low grade fever and a cough, you would probably have a headache too.  Hopefully it's just a virus since you won't be taking her to the doc.  Just give her lots of liquids and tylenol.  Hope she gets better soon.  The swollen glands are helping her fight off whatever it is that's invading her body so that's a good thing.
