I drive a 2002 Nissan Xterra SE V6 3.3L. I went to try to start my car today and it would not start. I would hear a clicking noise and the electric (lights, A/C, etc) seem to struggle. My first thought was the battery was going out. So I went down to Wal Mart and bought a new battery. I wired it up and tried to start it again. This time I got more electricity but still the same clicking noise and no start. I'm guessing the starter went out? About how much would is that gonna cost me? Any other possible causes? Also, I recently (last week) installed a new head unit (stereo). This problem shouldn't be related to that right?

  1. First ensure you have the correct battery to power a truck that size. Second it's doubtful that it's the starter thats causing the problem. Replacing the deck could likely be the problem. Did you also install some speakers, or amps, or subwoofers? If you crossed a wire, or left a wire exposed somewhere this could create some problems for you too. Also if you did install some other stereo equipment you may need a deep cell battery or a power cap to power everything you have.
