What could be causing my weight gain?

I just don't understand this. I eat a 1500-1600 calorie diet and only 33 grams of fat per day. I eat on the high end of the food pyramid guide for the fruits and vegetables, but I eat on the low end for the meat, grain, and dairy groups. I exercise at least 60 minutes 5 days a week and yet, I have gained 20 pounds in 2 months! I am not pregnant- not even a possibility of that, so what the heck is causing this?

  1. since you arent eating alot of food, this causes your metabolism to slow down. and you should eat more meats because they help speed your metabolism up. sometimes when ppl excersice alot, they gain muscle not fat. and that may be what you have done. you should visit your dr and have them check what percentage of your body is fat. i'm really sorry hear this because that must be frostrating. the ansewr is not to work out more though, because 60 is a good amount. you dont want to live at the gym.

and some body types are not meant to lose weight.

    good luck

  2. hormones....PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome), BC pills ??? (which are ALL hormones...)

    thryoid problems ???

  3. you might need to have your thyroid checked.

  4. The sugar content in the foods. I have been having this same problem, I consulted my doctor and she said that the sugars in fruits in not burned and are eaten in excess can cause weight gain. You can also just be carrying water weight.. so try a water pill.

  5. Hi, Dorothy.

Happy day to you! It sounds like you are doing a great job of keeping you diet and exercise. Not to get you concerned but, i think it is time for you to go to the doctor. Sometimes if your thyroid is out of wack it will make you gain weight for no reason. Several of my friends had similar problems and it was their thyroid. They took a tiny pill every morning and they got better.

    Good luck,

    Ruthie

  6. You are likely gaining muscle weight. Also, I don't think you are eating enough calories for your exercise demands.
