What could be destroying these sparrows in such a horrible way?

We live out in the country. We have a bird feeder in a tree approximately 4 foot off the ground. Twice now we have found a sparrows body standing on the feeder as though it were eating but its head is gone! What could be so fast as to eat the birds head and leave the body in place???

question number 1:is there blood or anything from the insides leaking out?

question 2: do you have any animals like cats or anything like that in your neighborhood?

if there was no blood on the head or anything that means its just sleeping. i dont know why it would choose such an open space but it still could mean it was sleeping. other than that i have no idea what could kill it.

sounds like a creepy sci-fi movie. are you for real? I dont know what type of animal would do that...I grew up in the country and had friends losing dogs and cats to cougars, etc, but have never heard of this.
