  1. The emotional impact is directly related to the hysteria. The extreme global warming activists are ready to change our entire society (including our dreams) over a "theory," without even knowing whether the theory is correct, without knowing the degree of impact it will have on the world, without knowing whether the resources poured into these theories will even have any significant impact, etc.

I encourage you to watch the Glenn Beck special tonight on CNN Headline News at 6:00 and 8:00 and 11:00 PM Central Time Zone. He presents the counterpoints to Global Warming. It promises perspectives you just don't hear in the media these days.

  2. That's an interesting question.  I've studied the psychological aspects of global warming (GW) but not specifically the emotional ones.

A lot of people are very concerned about the effects of GW and in many cases this is causing undue worry.  It's not uncommon for example, to find questions on this site along the lines of 'will we all die from global warming?'.  In the developed nations we're well protected against the effects of GW and can mitigate many of the effects.  At worst it's going to inconveneince a lot of people but that's all it is.  The impact will be much more hard hitting in the poorer countries that are less able to deal with the consequences of GW.

It's important that people are given the correct info about GW - there's no sudden change, no doomsday scenario and visions of tidal waves and ice ages are the product of Hollywood imaginations.

There's no reason that we shouldn't have the same dreams and aspirations that we've always had.  OK, maybe if someone is dreaming of retiring to the Maldives it's not all that practical as they could be underwater in a few decades but by and large life will continue as it has done although we will need to make some changes.

The statistics for GW are frightening but they need to be taken in context.  For example, one person dies every 3 minutes as a result of GW, that figure looks set to double in the coming years but it's still only one in 18,000 of the world's population each year (bad enough but not as bad as some people make out).

  3. It would make everyone very sad, if they hadn't died of sunstroke or thirst already.

It would make us all dream of snow, obviously.
