Question:

What could be the problem with my DVD player?

We have a Sony Progressive Scan 5 disk DVD/CD changer, model #DVP-NC675P. It came as a surround sound "package" with a receiver and speakers. Went to play a DVD and even though the picture is perfect, there is no sound. Changed the receiver to have TV output sound and it works fine, so the receiver is not the problem. We have Monster Cables running from the audio/video output to the receiver...could this be the problem? I've not cleaned the DVD player since we've had it (2years) but I figured the picture quality would be the only thing effected by that. It's a hassle to take everything out and hook it to another TV so I thought I would run it through Yahoo Answers first.

  1. Was it working before? If so what changed?

I't difficult to help without further info. But some things to check:

    - How is audio connected? "Monster Cables" doesn't help. What type of cable? Where is it plugged in?

    - Do you have the audio cable plugged into the receiver into a port that is associated with the DVD setting on the receiver "source" switch.

    - For surround sound you need to connect the DVD player via optical or digital coax, but try connecting with simple red/white RCA cables first to see if that works.

Cleaning isn't the problem ... it's either a setting, a switching issue, or a bad cable.

That's about as much as I can say without more info.

For future reference when asking questions include as much info as possible that may be relevant.

    Good luck.
