I am currently working on a case study and I would like to ask,

can I conclude Urinary Tract Infection from these data?

Urinalysis:

RBC: 12-14/hpf

Pus Cells: 1-3/hpf

Other symptoms: Fever (39 degress celsius)

Other information: Doctor prescribed the patient with co-trimoxazole.

If it's not Urinary Tract Infection, what could it be?

  1. It is not a definite diagnosis from the results provided. Few pus cells are common in urine analysis. You may find the linked articles below useful. The second article discusses criteria for laboratory diagnosis of UTI (Family practice protocol).

More definitive diagnosis could come from urine culture results.

  2. Blood in the urinary tract can arrise from several different causes. UTI is one. Renal stones, renal tumor, vaginal contamination, coital induced trauma, are a few others.

A fever would suggest  UTI as well. What is pt hx ?
