What could be wrong with my 12" JBL hometheater sub?

Well me and my friends had a party the other night. We turned on the reciever; by the way we have a 500 watt yamaha receiver. We played the music all night, and at one time the receiver cut out. I went to check it out and the thing had overheated (not enough ventilation). Well, we put fan up to keep it from overheating again. Now, the next morning, we turned on the music and noticed that the sub was not working anymore. We tried multiple ways to see why it wasn't working, and in the end it wouldn't work anymore. The standby light doesn't even turn on, so I was just wondering what could be the problem with our sub.

  1. alot of the bigger subs have built in amps inside the box. I'm sure its not the sub cause even if you blew the voice coils it would still come on. I'd also check inputs on both receiver and sub. Good luck.

  2. probably fried the output to the sub.. or the sub itself.. switch the sub to another receiver if you have or switch a sub to see if it works..

and plus.. 500w isnt all that much.. i had a 700w pioneer and currently 700w onkyo..

  3. try plugging it in, in a different place.  if that doesnt work you can try to see if its the actual sub or just the sub's amp by taking the sub out and attaching speaker wire to it to see if it plays anything. if it plays anything then unless you like working on audio equipment i would say you trash the box, sell the sub on ebay (if it works) and buy a new sub w/ box.

to me it sounds like theres something wrong with the amp in the sub's box so its possible that the actual subwoofer still works.

good luck! i hope im wrong and it is just something simple
