My baby is 4 months old and her eating habbits are all over the place. Last week she was having 25oz per day (on the low side at 14lbs but is gaining fine) and the past 10 days she has been having up to 36oz per day and is wanting it more frequently. She is also waking up at night every 4 hours for 8oz bottles when before she was sleeping at night for 9 1/2 hours. Then today she has had 3 bottles and only had 9 1/2 oz in total. She seems to have gone back to not drinking much. She cries all of the time (always has done) and I don't know what to do. I took her to the doctors 2 days ago and he said appart from her colic/ reflux, theres is nothing wrong with her. I feel like banging my head againt a brick wall. What is wrong with my baby?

  1. There could be something really wrong.  Take her to the doctor right away.  There could be many things happening

  2. maybe she has hit a growth spurt.

  3. sounds like a growth spurt, hon. it's perfectly normal.  if it concerns you, call your pediatrician to verify

  4. It's a growth spur, I'm pretty much old fashion and follow alot of homeremedies and 70% of the time not listen to my doctor because of my instinct.  After 4 kids... I realized on their 4 to 5 months the formula was not enough so i started adding a tsp of baby cereal in their formula, it filled them up and not be so hungry so soon.  At 6  to 9 months you start solids and this transitions them as well to be used to the taste.  Doctors say not to do that because of Asthma or breathing problems, but all i did was make the whole in the nipple bigger so it can flow easier and not suck so hard (AVENT rocked for that) and none of my kids have asthma, my baby of all is 5, they're all perfectly healthy.

Now, for the colic/reflux, i used Acidophilus.  You can get it from a health food store.  Add a tiny bit to formula and it works wonders.

    Good Luck

  5. My baby is also about 4 months old and I've noticed a few days in a row where she does this - I bet it's just a growth spurt. You won't know for sure, but within a few days if things don't change, maybe you could talk to a Dr. Maybe your baby has a slight flu bug or something, but more likely it's just a growth spurt. From my understanding, they usually only last a week at the most.

  6. nothing is wrong with your baby.  babies tend to go through growth spurts about every 2 months till they are about one.  since she has colic/reflux, i think when it starts to bother her, she eats less and when it doesn't bother her she eats more.  i don't know if you are giving her anything for the colic, but i would look into a colic tonic if you aren't.  she's old enough to be getting rice cereal and some baby foods you can give her those to fill her up more and it may not bother her stomach as much.

  7. come on thesebabies today are not as dumb as babies before they are smart and want attention

be sure to make her tired before she sleeps let her play in her crib or take her for a stroll feed her before her bedtime and do not goto feed her at nightat three months you must also give her some solids maybe she is hungry

  8. Yes I agree ..its probably just a growth spurt.  And please don't bang your head against the wall.  Get something to help yourself cope better. And watch out for Post Natal Depression. Its so stressful to have a colicky baby and at the same time your hormones are all over the place

    Take Care

  9. What concerns me about your post is that you mention she is a little on the low side (weight) It sounds like somehting is irritating her. You mentioned she does have colic, sometimes the cereal makes that worse. Whereas before doctors would say to start solids at 4 months, many of them now are saying to prolong it a little longer, perhaps 5 or 6 months. How much weight has she gained. If she is really uncomfortable she might be getting some kind of reaction to the formula. My friends son acted normal until about 15 months, except he'd get very picky when it was time to drink milk. it turns out he was alergic to it. He never developed any rashes or anything, but after they took him off it, he started to gain weight, which he had not been able to do.
