I went for my annual eye exam last Friday morning. My Dr. is sending me to a neuropthalmologist because she says that there is something swollen in my eye. I want to say a swollen nerve if I remember correctly.

I am just so stressed now and was feeling no pain before but now I am... I think its mind over matter... I am just trying to stay positive and trusting in God for the best.

But what could this possibly me?

Thanks in advance for reading/answering.

  1. Sounds like the optic nerve is swollen.

Have you been sick lately?   Have you had unusual pain in your eye or eyes recently?

You are entitiled to copies of any reports.  I highly recommend that you obtain and keep all reports in a binder.

I hope the doctor is worried about nothin g.  Good luck.

  2. A neuro-ophthalmologist is a doctor who specializes both in eyes (ophthalmology) and in the brain (neurology)- you are referred to those doctors when it is suspected that you have a visual problem caused by faulty 'wiring' transmitting the images from the eyes to the brain- the optic nerve is responsible for this, or you may have a neurological disorder that causes trouble. The first (problem with the 'connections' and not the eye itself) seems to be the case.

I wont lie- generally, neuro-ophthalmology deals with serious and difficult cases. That said, try to keep an open mind, hope for the best, and prepare for whatever else it could be.

  3. I really don't know what it is, but I wanted to wish you luck with your appointment, and I am sure you have nothing to worry about.  Good luck
