  1. If you are sure she isn't due to foal, the reason she is excreting from the udder could be one of many. The best advice you can get is from your Vet. I have seen this in really overweight mares, as a result of fly bites - which can lead to mastitis, overstimultaion of the udder (ie if you pick the wax off too often) on a mare that has foaled in the past, hormonal etc etc.

Like in all animals, horses may cease to have seasons if overweight. Or she is one of the types who just don't display as much.

Anyway I would recommend you get the Vet to check her out, and if al is ok, just keep her weight under control, and in the summer lightly spray her udder with flyspray.

    Good luck

  2. maybe she isnt a typical mare. I know a couple of mares who dont seem to come into season ever!

Just keep an eye on her and if you get really worried call the vet and just tell them, no need for a visit and they will have advice for you

  3. I don't think anything is wrong she may just be a very quiet unmareish mare. If you get too worried maybe you should ask your vet.

  4. some mares are really quiet during their season  and some are the opposite   just be grateful that you have the quiet one

  5. It sounds like she was bred when you got her.

Many horses will produce a little milk like substance if they have had foals before.  That part is not that unusual.

Others may be right to in that she is a quiet cycler.

Also some mares will not cycle if there is not a stallion or at least a gelding present.  I have seen mares stop cycling like that and then cycle within a couple of days when brought around a stallion.

  6. That is not good if she is not pregnant or nursing a foal and it could be caused by a pituitary gland disorder. The pituitary gland should not be secreting prolactin if she is not pregnant and not nursing. So something is wrong. It is the secretion of the prolactin hormone that triggers lactation and I suspect that she may have a prolactinoma. Prolactinoma is a benign tumor in the pituitary gland which will secrete prolactin and thereby trigger lactation even though she is not pregnant or nursing. And the fact that she has stopped cycling in addition to lactating while she is not pregnant or nursing also fits the scenario of a prolactinoma. If it is a prolactinoma, in early stage of development the tumor can be treated and controlled by drug therapy but it will require surgery or radiation if left untreated. I think you should have her checked by a vet who is aware of the condition and knows how to treat it.

  7. Your mare may just be quiet about her cycles, I usto have a mare that was so non marish that the only way you knew she was cycling is that she would share her food with the cows instead of chasing them away.

If she has had a foal in the past she may still have some milk.
