Question:

What could be wrong with my new 50" Plasma HDTV?

We just got a newTV. The one we had before was 20 years old and it finally died. We bought a 50" Plasma Flat Screen LG and upgraded our digital cable to the HD digital box. The HD cable looks worse than if I have the regular digital box hooked up to it. It looks like there are squares and lines thru my TV like it's old or something. It didn't look like this when I had the regular digital box hooked up. It seems like my old TV looked better than this brand new one. Is there something I can do to set my TV differently so it doesn't look like this?

  1. Just for snorts and giggles, connect the TV to an antenna and scan for Over The Air channels.  (Make sure to change to Antenna tuning).  If the pictures improve greatly, then you need to complain to the cable company.

    Just a thought . . .

  2. I have run into this problem a coupl of times.  If you are running just a regular co-ax cable, that can be yor problem. Try running RCA (red, white, and yellow) from your digital box to the tv. If that doesn't work, you may have to up-grade your cables to component cables. If you do decide to go with these, I reccomend monster cable, they will give you your best possible picture. If these sollutions don't work, you may have to contact the place where you purchased it, and maybe get it serviced. Hope this helps you.

  3. Well the problem depends on the type of channel you are viewing. One of my TV's is a plasma and it looks terrible on Standard Definition (SD) channels. Typically SD channels look distorted and grainy on plasma screens. Now if you are viewing High Definition (HD) channels then there may be some sort of problem...what sort of media is the box hooked up with: HDMI, Component, RCA, etc?

  4. well # 1 its a PLASMA they suck, cause if you bump it or move it you can really, really mess it up. There should be a menu where you can adjust the picture and sound to your spec's. And you can't just go by your old T.V. cause you got a 50 inch the screen is bigger and it's gonna look different .
