What could be wrong with my throat?

I've had a sore throat for almost a week now, and it seems to be getting better, but it feels like there's a huge lump in the back of my throat when I swallow.

Also, the roof of my mouth began to peel!

  1. The fact that you have peeling suggests that your infection is in the less common 15% that are caused by bacteria. Typically streptococcus produces this effect. Since you have been symptomatic for 7 days I would also place your sore throat in the even smaller group for which I would agree it is appropriate to prescribe antibiotics. Go see your GP who should prescribe the specific antibiotic penicillin V, being sure that a broader spectrum antibiotic such as amoxicillin is avoided! If you have a penicillin allergy erythromycin is the next choice.

  2. WOW! I've never heard of that, I'd get checked out at the dentist and your doctors!

    Sorry!
