Question:

What could cause CMOS Check sum Error, in my system at startup?

It shows a message, "CMOS Check sum Error, Defaults loaded

PRESS F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup"

and all the settings such as, time, boot sequence etc gets changed to default. What could be the reason for this?

  1. LIke others said, replace the cmos battery. Thats its job--to power the bios chip so the bios settings are retained. Its death is usually preceeded by the computers clock starting to run slow.  


  2. yout Cmos battery has greeted.You need to replace the battery on your motherboard.You will see if you open your pc casing and look at the motherboard there will be a round battery the size of a bottle cap.You can get those batteries at most computer stores.Or just take one off an old motherboard or something.

  3. CMOS battery from your system has gone dead. Its time to replace it with the new one. Its very cheap and easily available in the market.
