What could cause a pool liner to become cracked?

It is in the center of an above ground 25' round pool. When we baught the house 7 yrs. ago and opened the pool in the summer it was that way & I replaced it. I opened it yesterday and it has done the same thing. I noticed last year after I opened it it started feeling rough there and now it is very visible to the eye. It looks like it's dry rotted, yet has always had water in it. Help, liners are not cheap!

  1. If it the lowest point of the pool the clorine will lay in that spot and over time clorine eats away at the liner. It becomes brittle and cracks.7 years is good for a liner.Nothing about a pool is cheap.

  2. It's important that the bottom is flat & smooth, since you saw wrinkle in 2 liners i would check the area for roots, anything that feel rough and remove what is causing it,you may want to add more of the special material for the bottom before you replace it,pool liners come in various thicknesses which contribute to the life of the liner, also remember to keep winter chemicals off the bottom or they will eat the liner i run insulated wire across the pool then tye to the middle and hang 2 feet in the water.

  3. When you re-install your new liner, use a floor liner. I had the same issue, and when I replaced it, I used a product called "Gorilla Liner", which is a material like a fabric, and it goes between the ground and your new liner, and is 100% root-proof. Hopefully it will help extend my new liner.

  4. If you got 7 years out of your liner, don't complain. They don't last forever.

  5. It might be a tree root growing under the liner or a wire, I am not sure tell your local pool guys, I don't think UV from the sun would do it, but it might.
