Question:

What could cause patches of tongue discoloration (bright red) and weeks of feeling like it's burnt? ?

A few weeks ago, my tongue got two bright red patches (strawberry-colored) and it felt like the burning sensation of a canker sore. Then the color generally went away. The feeling, however, remains. It feels like some piping hot pizza sauce landed on my tongue a few minutes ago. The feeling is pretty constant.

Also, on the top of the back of my tongue, on each side, is a bump. I assume this is normal but thought I'd add it in case it's a sign of something related to the information above.

Thanks for your guesses.

  1. Scarlet fever also known as scarlatina is infection that is caused by a bacteria called streptococcus. This can give you a strawberry type tongue.

Kawasaki disease can also cause a strawberry tongue.

    You may need an antibiotic.
