What could cause rpms to dip and bounce back in1998 Jeep Cherokee?

When I take my foot off gas even coasting downhill I feel a hesitation and see the rpms drop but then bounce back up to normal level. There does not seem to be a fuel problem as I do not feel it missing or running rough. I have had a few strange electrical things going on that we can't track and the OBD shows no codes. Could these be related or just coincidental?

  1. I've had the same exact thing happen with our 1991 F250. A friend thinks it's shifting between gears. I don't buy that, but I can't think of anything else.

  2. Could be internal in transmission (throttle pressure) or could be as simple a tps sensor (throttle pos. sensor)
