Every couple months I head into the ER with tooth pain. I can't afford a dentist, so I take the meds they give and it goes away for a while. About two days ago, I went in again and was given tylenol #3 and penicilin, which I have taken ever few hours as perscribed. I also asked the doc for a local to help with the pain. I thought it was odd that there was alot of med in my mouth, rather that in the gum, but It was numbing ok, so I let it go. The doc said it would last 2-3 hours. It was less than a half hour later when it began to wear off. I woke up this morning to find my face swollen on that side. It has gotten worse all day, now I have a pus ball just above the tooth. I called the er again and she said it was part of the infection and not to worry. I tried to lance the ball, and got some out, but now it is bigger than ever and won't lance again. Is this truley the infection? Or did the local go wrong somehow? Or do U have allergies?

  1. it's not an allergy cos if it's an allergy it will affect most of the part of your body (not only teeth and gums)

you should really go to the dentist and have a treatment, probably root canal treatment, but you should finish the antibiotics first

cos i think it's positive that you have a tooth infection, the dentist could drain the pus out and treat your tooth

if you dont do it, sooner or later it will affect other parts of oral structure (bone, gums) near your tooth and it would cost more expensive, better to treat it as soon as possible

antibiotics suppose to lessen the swelling,, you should really go to the dentist

for a cheaper price, i think you could go to a dental school and ask for treatment, it would cost much more cheaper cos the students need patients,, and i'm sure they will treat you well cos they're assisted by dentists

  2. Penicillin may not be working otherwise it should heal in maximum 5 days. Some people r allergic to pencillin but in ur case u hv not experienced those symptoms. How about changing ur ER if she is not willing to change ur medicine!
