  1. the things that could go wrong is :

    not enough oxygen

    engine faliour

    pilot has a heart attack

getting stuck in bad turbulance ( or storm)

  2. too much.thats the reason i refuse to fly.never have,never will.

  3. What CAN'T go wrong would be a better question

  4. depressurisation ,enginefailure, hijacking, electrics failure, landing gear wont move,so many other things aswell

  5. Snakes

  6. The interior of the plane could catch on fire.

Someone could go into cardiac arrest, have a seizure, or some other medical emergency that could not be handled in mid-air.

The plane's automatic pilot could malfunction and you could end up in Algeria.

The flight could get hijacked and you could end up in Algeria.

Someone could board with a lethal virus and spread it to everyone else on the plane.

But these scenarios are all highly unlikely.

  7. Run out of fuel.  Autopilot malfunction.  Runaway trim.  Overvoltage triggering electrical instrument failures.  Landing gear stuck.  Nosewheel steering malfunction.  Brake failure.  Wind shear when on takeoff roll or in the initial climb.  Hail.  Cargo compartment inferno.  Main cabin cabin inferno.  Flight deck inferno.  Engine fire.  Lightning strike.  Icey runway with nearly nil brake effectiveness.  Ice accumulation on wings and tail surfaces.  Ice ingestion.  Bird strikes.  Fuel tank explosion.

  8. Theres loads!

*A Pakistani Terrorist Detonates his shoe bomb in the aisle!!And kills lots of innocent people (mostly Muslim passengers)

*A drunken guy stabs a pretty blonde Stewardess with broken bottle neck

    * Child turns on his Nintendo Gameboy & the electronics interfere with the Plane's Engines & suddenly crashes into a block of flats in London.

*Snakes can get on to the Plane!!

*Woman can give birth on a plane (to another man's child)

*The pilot may go past a Red Traffic Light & get £60 fine & points on their licence (reduced to £30 if sent within 30 days)

    * A prisoner may get uncuffed & kill everyone on board (with the exception of one flight attendant) I saw it in a movie starring Ray Liotta

*The plane may hit into a mountain. & the survivors may have to eat each other. I saw it in a movie.

*Some lunatic may shout "BOMB" whilst plane is in flight & it happens to be April fools Day that day.

*The Pilot may have a heart-attack or fall sleep at the wheel & collide into other moving vehicles.

*Passengers may have to leave the plane as the Pilot is arrested by Police for 'drink driving.' after being breathalised.

  9. Not enough Oxygen is the only one i can think of.

  10. not many things:)

  11. BOOM!!!  That isn't a plane crash, it is an explosions in mid-air.

  12. I tottaly agree with walt554. That is the number one answer !!

  13. things do go wrong, on every flight.  Of course, you never know about it because we catch it and take care of it.  I have been flying for years, and I've never had anything break that was any big deal.  Just don't worry about it.  A lot more can happen to you in your car or even in your bathtub.

PS, if someone is really terrified of flying, they should live in a bomb shelter.  If a plane went down, it could crash into your house!  You are not safe from aircraft accidents if you stay out of aircraft.  Just a thought.  Don't worry about things you can do nothing about.

  14. not many things....

  15. Various equipment failures, such as fuel leaks, landing gear will not retract, and loss of one or more engines are a few answers. Not everything will result in a crash.

  16. A lot COULD go wrong, but over 99% of the time, only the pilots know it because it's undetectable to passengers and safety is never compromised.

I've flown over 3,000 flight legs.  I have never had anything fail that hasn't had a backup system.  I've had an electrical generator go out, but the other generator powered all necessary equipment.  Even if the other generator went out, we still had a battery that would last another 30 minutes, and then yet another standby battery that could power the bare essentials for another hour.  I've had a hydraulic pump fail, but the other pump powered all hydraulic systems.  Even if the second pump failed, we have emergency systems for landing gear extension and brakes.

Pilots train for just about any "common" malfunction every 6 months in simulators.  I say "common" because they are the things that have happened, but most pilots may only see one or two of these problems in a lifetime.

  17. Your baggage becomes misplaced. The airport food makes you sick. Screaming children kick your seat. The person sitting next to you smells like p**p.

  18. I like J L's answer.  The same story was recreated in the Twilight Zone movie from the 1980's with John Lithgow.  The segment from the movie was the scariest thing I had ever seen on TV.  Of course I was a kid then.

Other than that, anything can happen during flight.  Use your imagination.

  19. The incidents so far can be categorized in three major problematic areas:

    (a) Hydraulic failure leading to non-operating ailerons, elevators, rudder and landing gear.

    (b) All engines fail.

    (c) Bad weather & extremely severe turbulence leading to flight navigation disruption and out of control flying.

But now-a-days with MTBF(Mean time between failure) & MTTF(Mean time to failure) data available and continuous improvements an aircraft has been turned into a highly reliable machinery.

  20. Watch the "Twilight Zone" episode called "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and you will see for yourself.

  21. the flight attendants run out of beer

  22. Not a lot. Its so unlikely its pointless to worry about it. There is more chance of being in a car crash
