What could happen to your car if you drove all day with the parking brake on all day?

last night i put it on because my garage way is on a hill. this morning when i left for work, i didn't notice it still up or i didn't hear any sound indicating it was up. but as i came back home from work and i was parking it was up! so there may be a 50/50 chance i drove all day with it on. but this is the first time this has ever happen.

1. the rear brake pads or shoes will need to be replaced.

2. the rotors or drums will need to be either machined or replaced.

3. you will need to have the brake fluid flushed out due to the excessive heat.

4. you will need to check the rear seals as well.

First you could have worn down your rear brakes - you should have it checked out.

Second you could have developed air bubble in the brake line - from the exteme heat of driving with the brakes on. So have the brakes bled while you have the brakes checked out.

I doubt you can drive more than a few blocks without noticing the parking brake is on, so chances are you didn't drive with it on. But if you did you should get your brakes checked before driving the car again because the brakes could be burned out and you wouldn't know it until it is too late. Good luck

Bottom line..........you really NEED your brakes, so have both your parking brake cable and also your rear brakes checked by a mechanic.

If it was on you will need to have the rear brake pads replaced.

If you went all day with the brake on...and didn't notice...then..chances are that the E brake wasn't much good to begin with.  If it was...then you wouldv'e noticed right away that it was on.

Time to get the brake shoes and hardware replaced...and have them check the other parts of the E brake system....cables...etc.

That way...you can be assured of having a safe E brake system.
