Question:

What could have been up with my toliet?

This morning I got up went to the bathroom, took my shower, got ready, and went to the bathroom before I left for work, but after I flushed the toliet it kept running. The bowl filled up like normal and I took the lid off and the tank filled, but it still sounded like the water was running. I flushed it two more times and it kept doing the same thing and was still running when I came home at 5. I called the place that installed it and no one would be available until tomorrow so after I got off the phone I went to the bathroom and it flushed just fine and the water stopped running and did the next time after that. What could be happening?

  1. It could be the float sticking or the flapper that lifts when you flush leaking. Shut the water off at the valve by the floor till it gets fixed or you'll  see it on your water bill

  2. sounds like the float in the tank may be sticking , or may need adjustment, Not a big deal, gl

  3. Either the flapper is leaking or the float didn't shut off the water and let it go into the overflow (the part where the little tube is).  Either option is easy to fix. Good luck and God Bless.

anyhow, besides the answers here, another potential problem could be the building pressure varies just enough to cause the toilet tank to flow into the overflow pipe causing it to continue to fill.

when the toilet runs, remove the lid and note the height of the water. it should be at a specified waterline mark.

if it's lower, then it's the flapper may be jamming.  if it's at the top of the fill tube, then the toilet is in need of a minor adjustment.
