  1. It depends on the age of the child. Sports, especially those that involve a basic level of hand - eye or foot - eye coordination are good. Catching variously sized balls (rolling them first) is good. Dance is also a very helpful activity in increasing physical development.

  2. Swimming is a very good one. Not just for physical development, but in general.. because realistically everyone needs to learn to swim.

Some sort of martial art is usually great for kids. My brother and I have both being doing karate since we were 7 and we are both very toned and fit, and have great stamina. My body has just.. grown into this shape because I've been doing it for so long. It gives all of your body equal exercise, unlike something like snowboarding would. It's also great for not only teaching them how to defend themselves, but if they are one of those kids who seems to have unlimited energy, then it will surely tire them out. It's also a good way to teach them how to respect their elders, and it's good for helping their mind to remember routines and sequences, which I have found very useful with revision for my exams. You find that kids who do martial arts are better behaved than others, generally speaking, and grow up to be less violent people because they take get all of their frustration out during their training. It also helps them to be competitive, which is a good thing for kids to learn to be.

I also did ballet for a long time and that really does help with your flexibility and posture.

  3. sports (swimming, tennis, ball games etc)

general interaction (hugging, holding hands, dancing)

balancing games (walking along curb / small wall supervised etc).

  4. Proper nutrition.  Children need a balanced and adequate diet for healthy physical development.  Physical activities that help children develop muscle mass and strong bones are much more productive if the child has adequate "fuel".  Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day for children.  An active child needs to eat a healthy breakfast in order to jump start ALL areas of development; intellectual, physical, social and emotional.  Calcium is an essential mineral for children's physical development and our teens really need to focus on it.  They are building bone mass at a remarkably fast rate, so if they don't like milk - cheese, yogurt, or even ice cream have calcium.

  5. sports -swimming for instance.
