About less than a year ago i had sprained my right ankle, i had almost broke it and i never really let it heal properly, i was back on it within a week. Now when i compare both of my ankles together, my right ankle is a little bit bigger than the left. Now when i work out, after about a mile and a half, my ankle starts bothering me (there's some pain to where i have to slow down on the treadmill). Is there anything i can do to completely heal my ankle so it does hurt anymore when i work out????

  1. you have to see a doctor

    otherwise it'll keep hurting

  2. x-ray photo is necessary to know what's happening

  3. I sprained mine about a year and 1/2 ago, I also had that my ankle bone grew out a little more after that due to the inflammation which was pretty bad.

I had the wear a cast for about a week, then I started walking again but ever since i went back to the gym I've had to lay off ALL the leg workouts because the inflammation would come back not that it was that bad but I could tell but it never hurt after it healed.

Now I can't tell the difference it seems that in some miraculous way that the extra bone growth or inflammation whatever it may be is now gone. Probably due to the fact that I haven't put any pressure on it for about a year now. In order to "completely" heal yourself, you should lay off any type of workout where you stress your ankle beyond mild exercise.

  4. I would get it checked first.

It sounds like the muscles around your right ankle has atrophy (shrunk), because you have probably compensated the pain by making the left ankle do the bulk of your work.

It probably can be corrected by strengthening exercises for the ankle- one great start is simple toe raises then rock back on your heels keeping your legs and posture straight.  Make sure you get the full range in both directions- work your way up to doing it standing on just right foot.

Your doctor may send you to outpatient physical therapy for a full stregthening program.  You would have the strongest ankles in town!

  5. I seriously doubt there is a doctor likely to read this.

    Getting the message.

Get to the bloody doctor. To me you obviosly have some damage. Get it sorted and do what the doctor says.

  6. Probably not even with costly operations. That is why it is so important to take care of injuries properly as they happen.

    Sorry for that.

  7. yeah, call the doctor
