Right i have a good netgear router, and basicly im getting a imac in my room wich is upstairs, ive been trying my connection upstairs with my laptop an its not that good, is there anything i could use on a imac to boost my connection,

  1. Yes, you can buy some powerline ethernet adapters,these use mains wiring to carry the signal from the router to the laptop. You need 2 adapters, one to connect your router to a local socket, the other from a local socket to where your laptop is. Speeds are as good as or better than wifi, and can be encrypted so your neighbour cannot pick up your signal if they also have powerline adapters. All the major manufacturers do them netgear, d-link, link sys. etc, here are some links. They come in various speeds, the price increases as the speed does


  2. Not knowing much about netgear routers, what i suggest is increasing the wireless power. Ring netgear and ask them how to do it they should explain.

  3. If its wireless it needs to be upstairs not down because the signal goes around and mainly goes down not up, I have that problem at my mums because she has hers under the stairs which blocks part of the signal

  4. Im not sure if they make them for Imacs but when my router was far away i cut a hole in the wall and routed an wireless receiver up into the cealing above the router and it boosted my strength by alot.
