I was on my computer and suddenly i got a message saying that my USB device has stopped working (my mouse), due to a power surge. Then i tried to restart my computer using my keyboard, and my computer froze. After about 5 minutes i turned it off manually, but the power light was blinking feebly... and i couldn't turn the computer back on... i turned off the main power, turned it on again, turned on the computer, it loaded to the windows start up page but then froze again... i restarted it manually again, but this time, even the motherboard screen, where it tells you the company of the motherboard or sometimes the maker of the computer (HP in my case), along with the processor... that didn't turn on either... the screen was blank with an orange light indicating no signal. and thats it, nothing else happens.. my wireless adapter light doesn't blink either thought the hard drives and the cd rom work, and the HDD light blinks like its supposed to during start up... but then it just gets stuck too...

could this be a fried mother board? or just a faulty power supply?

  1. Bad power supply

  2. Based on the message about the surge, it sounds like your power supply fried, and if that is the case, there also may have been some damage to the mboard.  A surge strong enough to be recognized by the system doesn't sound good, but if it was worse, it would have all gone bye-bye with no word to you anyway. If you can try a new power supply, do that first. But it may not be enough.  Good luck.

    P.S. Get a surge protector.

  3. Sounds more like the processor is over heating. Check the CPU fan and see if it is working and the the CPU, heat sink and fan are securely mounted.

  4. Its NOT your motherboard sounds more like you got a really nasty virus or your hard drive crapped out. If you dont know much about computers have it checked out,, theres many ads on craigslist in the services section, Finding someone from there will cost you a fraction of what it would cost to take it to the geeks.

    Good luck
