my husband and i live in fort hood, tx right now and our BAH is like 800 a month and we can get an on-post housing with it. Apartments here that ive searched for so far is around 450-600 a month. if i get an on post housing, thats including water and electric bill paid. but im not sure whether we'd save alot more money if we get an apartment but including the bills that we have to pay... what do you guys suggest? thanks

  1. Hi,

I am active duty myself.  I have been in 18 years and finally bought a house.  If you are going to be in Fort Hood more than 3 years I would suggest buying a house becuase the housing market is actually doing very well there.  Otherwise its a toss up of whether you want to cut the grass yourself and or have the apartment complex people do it.  I always lived off base because after work I didnt want to mess with anything on base.

    good luck with your choice
