Question:

What could still be wrong with my knee after 7 months?

I was doing a lot of kneeling last December and ended up with 2 swollen knees....really badly swollen. I went to the orthopedic doctor who said the problem was bursitis., although he just looked at it and asked me questions. We didn't do an MRI or anything. It is 7 months later and the left knee is pretty well healed, but the right knee is not. If I slam on the brakes in my car, it swells. If I pivot, turning the knee to the side, it swells. Yesterday I took a big step up and out, and the pulling sensation all through the knee and under the kneecap was horrible. It hurts directly behind and below the kneecap. I am icing it and it is still swollen and aching from yesterday, and is also creaking. My next appt. with the doctor isn't until July 11th. Can anyone tell me what might be going on? It's driving me crazy and I don't feel like I should take a walk, even thought the weather is so nice. Thanks for your answers.

  1. whoa, that's  a lot to read!

  2. You don't say how old you are, but it is almost certain if you are over 20 that you have degenerative joint disease in your knees.  One is clearly worse than the other.  I am not at all a believer in snake oil, there is now scientific evidence that glucosamine and chondroitin supplements help your knees last longer and delay the need for joint replacement in later life.  Try them - tesco is fine and I suspect you will notice an improvement in 3-5 days.  Of course you should still see your doctor as you may have a torn meniscus or something that needs surgery.

  3. go to another doctor

bursitis itself can be a chronic condition, but I'd let another physician weigh in on this
