A few days ago, I bent down to pick something off the floor, and my right knee 'cracked'...normally it pops, but this was not a pop, it was more of a craaack. Then my knee gave out, couldn't hold weight for about five minutes...continued to hurt, but held weight for the rest of the day.
Now, two days later, when I touch the top of my kneecap, there is a spot that the minute I touch it, it feels like I'm sticking a big pin in my knee or something, and it is just all pain.
Now some background, because I do have previous knee problems:
I have hypermobile joint syndrome...this is most prominent in my knees and hips. I can turn my legs around completely backwards, so that my feet are touching, except that my toes are pointing behind me.
I also have very tense muscles, most prominently my outer thigh muscles. , Because my outer thigh muscles are overly tense (some days they feel like bone, they are so tight), they pull my kneecap out of place. My kneecap stays almost always just slightly (about 1/2 inch) to far outward.
The problems with my knees have also caused my feet to turn outward, so that my "comfortable" position is not with my toes straight up, but slightly pointed outwards, because in this position, my kneecap slides back into its proper position.
In 2001, my knees caused major problems for me, causing me immense pain and forcing me to walk alternatingly with crutches or a cane. At that point, I went to the doctor, who referred me to physical therapy. I went to therapy for six months, with no improvement.
After six months, I moved away, and because physical therapy did not help any, I did not try it anymore.
These days, my knees are again starting to cause a lot of pain, but not to the point of walking on crutches or with a cane.
Hope that background history helps. If you ask questions, I'll add details to answer them if I can.
