What could we do to try and get lots of customers into a pub?

Get yourself a great outdoor smoking area, stock up on real ales and rotate them frequently, employ a VERY good chef and feed your crowd of hungry customers good food, arrange a few regular jam nights (not the fruit spread type by the way) and make sure you advertise them well.

A bouncy castle for the adults would go down well when the weather's good!

Honestly, s*x does really sell!  Get some really good looking women to be in the bar and make the customers feel good (not in any obscene way!), but just make the customers enjoy themselves and they will come back with more people.

Woody and David N had it about right...I think a bland a pair of t*ts on a dumb blonde soon drop out of sight ...but... good company and brilliant hosting will win the day every time... along with value for money and quieter areas where people can converse and spin a line or two... banter should be the order of the day

Ooh! AND BAN KIDS they should never be in a good pub but shackled in the arms of the high St chains.

Try themed nights. Like Saturday Night "Wet T Shirt Contests" and Thursday night "Fight Night" People like to do things when they are drinking. There are a million places they can go and sit to drink. Give them something thats entertaining and they will come.

First of all, gimmicks are temporary.  Cater to those who work nearby.  Promote your pub by delivering lunch to surrounded businesses.  Offer oversized sandwiches at undersized prices.  Be creative in what you serve.  Be original.  Keep your pub absolutely clean and neat.  Offer a large beer selection and learn how to make a margarita better than anyone around.  An attractive, yet well spoken female wait-staff will do more to attract customers than anything else.  It's so easy to get someone to come in one time...... the key is to keep them coming back.  Gimmicks wear thin in time.  But a clean, friendly bar with attentive service and great drinks needs nothing else.
