What counld be the cause for a vehicle not going into fifth and reverse gear

It is a standard vehicle NOT AUTOMATIC.at times it goes in but most of the time it doesn't . i do believe it may be the cluthch that have gone bad . what do you think?

the shift linkage for both of those gears is shared , that is the most likely cause it is easily repaired, but involves removing the transmission to replace .
