  1. Its only expensive because its so cool

  2. Most of the Balkan countries are safe for a visit, incredibly beautiful and pretty affordable.

Macedonia for example. Know for it's hospitality, untouched nature, rich culture. Holy Land - one of the few countries mentioned in the Bible, great traditional food, amazing traditional folk music and dances, low prices, birth place of Mother Teresa, Kokino - the 4th oldest observatory in the world acording to NASA

    I'll suggest Ohrid

During the day you can go on any of the many beautiful beaches by the shore of the lake, do some shoping, sightseeing in the city or just sit in one of the many cafés in any of the narrow streets in the Old Town and enjoy. For all the young people, the nightlife is great and vibrant. The cafes work late at night, but there’re also so many nightclubs where you can carry on from there.

For sightseeing, there’re enormous many old churches, my favourite ones are Plaoshnik, more than 15 centuries old, St. Jovan Caneo, St. Naum… If you climb on the Samuil Fortress, just 5 min from the centre, you get amazing sight on the whole lake.

The Lake is clean, one of the oldest ones in Europe, from 1980 protected by UNESCO as a place of world cultural and natural inheritance. Most of the lake’s plant and animal species are endemic, which also makes Ohrid unique. The most famous among these are two types of Ohrid Trout. You should try them prepared on the traditional way.

Ohrid is also known as the site of the first Slavic university run by St. Clement and St. Naum at the end of the 9th century. Ohrid, also, used to be the centre of the orthodox Christianity in the whole region. There are 365 churches to be explored, one for every day of the year. They are even working on the Museum on water this year (on the place were a bronze age settlement used to be)..There’s so much history there…

And DO NOT miss a boat trip on the lake, especially at night, believe me one of a kind experience!!

I must not forget to mention the hospitability of the people there.

In the last few years Ohrid is soooo popular among foreign tourists, especially Greeks, Dutchmen, Bulgarians, Serbians, Izraelis, even Chinese people! So, check it out!!!

  3. The Balkans!  Albania is very cheap and the people are amazing!  South America and Asia are also very cheap.

  4. Eastern Europe is definitely cheaper than Western Europe, and Quebec is not really that cheap. The war in Georgia isn't going to affect you if you're travelling to places like Poland and Hungary. That being said, Southeast Asia, Egypt, and Latin and South America are all good options for cheap vacations.

  5. Australia, much cheaper, no wars, loveley weather and close connections to europe. lots of europeans here and the people are friendsly and jobs well paying and plentiful. great place to raise a familt too, a much better place to grow up then europe

  6. If you're looking at Canada, consider Newfoundland. It's the only part of Anglophone Canada I've visited where I actually felt I was in a different country. Incredible scenery, especially on the west of the island. There's a rich and vibrant living folk music tradition there, too.

From there it's a short boat ride to St. Pierre and Miquelon, which are part of France!

In South America, I hear nothing but good reports about Buenos Aires, although -- alas -- I haven't gotten there yet.

  7. If i had the money and time, I would pack right this moment and go to New Zeeland or aisland near...

As far as i know is not too expensive except the flight...

  8. South America!!  There are great cities that really aren't so dangerous, like Buenos Aires,  Quito Ecuador, Rio de Janeiro, Cartagena Colombia, Machu Pichu, Peru.

Then Costa Rica and Nicaragua are big for nature tourism, volcanoes, wildlife, tropical rain forests, and beaches.  Guatemala is fascinating, especially Antigua and Lago de Atitlan.

All of these places are affordable or even very cheap if you do some reading in budget travel guides.
