There are multiple countries which have obtained "independence" from France, either because they threw the French out and they gave up trying to retake the area or because the French decided that they could no longer justify attemting to control the areas.  These areas including, but not limited to:  Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Algeria, Mauritania, Haiti, Mexico, Madagascar, Chad, Ivory Coast, Niger.
