What country has the least strict wireless laws?

when i was installing a usb dongles wireless drivers it asked what country i was in to limit the power of it to the countries current wireless laws. i live in australia so i selected australia. but i am wondering if i can get more range out of it if i select a different country

Indonesia. no wireless law here, everyone set up their own wireless network till no one can get a clean signal within 100 meters. but seriously tough, the range of your usb dongle is not because of the country setting. there is another setting that you need to know. in XP: right click on my computer, go to properties. go to hardware tab, choose device manager. look for your usb wifi in that list, select it by double clicking it. look for advanced tab or something, you will find the range, power, and some other setting. max it if you want.

I'm not sure whether your dongle has a software that come with it, if it does, then you don't have to do any steps above and change it through the software setting. but if you can't find it, then try the steps above.

It's not a restriction. It's simply a way to regulate the different channels based on services that countries already use. different countries use wireless frequencies long before wireless networks were in use, so they naturally had to adjust to different channels. This is why the option is presented, different power levels simply means different frequencies - your not being short-changed just because of where you live.
