I know that the U.S. is in the lead with the most medals won in the Olympics overall, I believe we have over 2000.

BUT, what country has won the most medals in one Olympic ceremony? and how many?

it is the USSR in the 1988 Summer Olypics who had 195 medals total

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but its the closest I could get to the your answer(I've been having the same problem).

This sites says that as far as gold medals in a single game are concerned we lead with 83 in the 1984 Olympics (which are noted as being boycotted) and 79 in the 1904 Olympics (which were not boycotted, but they state that only 12 countries participated being as it was only 1904 and transportation wasn't what it is today).

I think it is the US.  During the cold war, both the US and USSR boycotted each other's olympics.  I think the Atlanta Game was the first one that no one boycotted, and US won like 44 gold?  and for the LA Game, which was boycotted by the Eastern Bloc, the US won over 80 gold metals.

In 1904 The United States won 236 total medals,which is by far the most ever.The next closest country was Germany which won 13.the

U.S.A. also leads by almost double in the total medals ever won the

Olympics.The U.S.A. has 2404 and the USSR has 1204.This total does not include this years games.
