  1. If you measure wealth by Gross Domestic Product (GDP):

Haiti — GDP: $14.79 billion (2006 est.) (purchasing power parity)

    is far poorer than

Mexico — GDP: $1.149 trillion (2006 est.) (purchasing power parity)

  2. poor immigrants are poor immigrants no matter what country...

  3. Definitely Haiti.

  4. Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas. It's in terrible shape. Many people have resorted to making and eating mud cakes with a little flour added to keep from starving to death.

Mexico is the 13th largest economy in the world, a member of NAFTA and it has a stable government. For all of those who think Mexico is a poor country, you got it wrong. Mexico is a rich country with many poor people and with high levels of corruption, a large informal economy, and not enough people paying taxes. It also has a war on drugs (Thanks to the US and its insatiable appetite for illegal drugs).

In Mexico there are many car dealerships for BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Jaguar, and even Ferrari. Also, the richest man in the world is Mexican, Carlos Slim.

  5. Haiti is poorer.

Mexico is in general constituted of low-income families. However, they do have a rich economy that is mostly made up of rich and elite, tourist towns, large buisness oweners, and politicians. The average family in Mexico is not considered rich, or even middle-class, in any light.

As far as immigration is concerned, Mexican people often do have a harder time being granted visas or other legal means of entry. This is due partialy to the amount that apply, but also to limits on how many people can be accepted per country. In order to get a visa while in Mexico, alot must be verified which is hard for the average family to accomodate. I know to get visitors visas, bank statements are needed (the more money in the bank the better), proof of property ownership, buisness if applicable, proof of job or income, underage children, house...basically anything that keeps strong ties to Mexico is needed to be verified before they give a visitors visa to a Mexican citizen.

  6. Yes, it is surprising to me that Mexico is considered advanced economically. I'm sure the wealth is distributed mostly in the resort areas and in the pockets of politicians and criminals.

  7. Haiti. No, this is NOT supposed to be the welfare capital of the world.  Needed skills used to be the basis for legal immigration, and should be again.

  8. Haiti is very poor.  Further, the people did not want to do education, and they are not educated.  The potential for them to get jobs in this country is very, very, very small.  The potential to recieve foreign aid and educate those folks in their country is very, very high.

Haiti is an excellent example of a country the United Nations needs to be dealing with on a full time basis.  They pretend, however, that Haiti doesn't exist.  They will eventually get to it though.. or the U.N. should be made to not exist.

  9. Haiti by a longshot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Mexico has a booming econmy based on drug trafficking human trafficking and tourism.

  11. Mexico has the 14 largest economy in the world.    It isn't poor at all.  Your answer would be Haiti by a long shot.
