  2. A small correction to Naz. The Suez Crisis was a war, not almost, but a real war which took place between England, France and Israel on one side and the Egyptians on the other side (1956). The US intervention put a stop to the war and the Suez Canal stayed an Egyptian property ever since.

    There was almost war over this, but the controversy over this was mediated and solved by Lester B. Pearson, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for this, and later became Prime Minister of Canada.  This event also created Canada's reputation as world peacemakers.
