  1. Australia - we speak english, its beautiful and life is easy for most people.

  2. I just wanted to wade in with the reality check thing :0)

It's nice to dream about which country would be your ideal, but all of the countries you mention (and for that matter all the EEA/EU countries plus Switzerland) have tight immigration policies these days due to huge waves of immigration in the last 10 or so years

Therefore it is not as easy as just picking up, choosing a country and moving there to live and work (language constraints apart even)

Therefore unless you hold an EU/EFTA passport it is very difficult.

You will either need to be (a) self-employed and show evidence of a thiving business (b) a highly skilled migrant with skills/experience which are in demand in Europe (and usually already receiving a high salary in your domestic country) or (c) sponsored by a company - and this is only normally done in the case that they cannot fulfil the job from the pool of labour within the EU or that you have specialist knowledge/experience

Also in principle you will need to speak the language of the country you work in (although there are exceptions to this if the company is an International one whose working language is e.g. English)

There are small differences but there generally the policies are very similar and restrictive for all EU/EEA & also Switzerland is equally or even harder from what I read, but I do not know about the non-EU ones.

The best thing to do in order to get accurate info including viability & time is to contact the embassy of the country you are interested in. They can provide you the official information (and often a lot of this is online e.g. for the UK and Netherlands it is anyway)

  3. Move to england

  4. England

  5. Before you make any serious commitments, it would be a good idea to see whether you would be welcome in your chosen destination.

I believe that the countries you mention are all members of the European Economic Community, and that getting permission to immigrate to one would give you permission to all of them.

I am very happy to hear that people think of Canada so fondly. People from the Untied States are very welcome visitors here. Getting "Landed Immigrant" status is not an easy process, though. If you want info, contact your nearest Canadian consulate or embassy.

  6. Italy

  7. Russia

  8. united states

  9. I think every country has a personality, and without much information, it would be difficult to guess which one would mesh best with your own personality.

Norway is great if you really love the outdoors.  Sports and outdoor activities are hugely popular, and most sporting goods stores specialize in camping and hiking equipment, rather than the ball sports that are popular in the US.  And of course skiing (mostly cross-country) is hugely popular.  Norway is not a country for shopping with extremely high prices and very short store hours.  Most Norwegian homes are fairly small, so there's not a lot of space to put things anyway.  It's a social democracy, so expect to pay very high taxes in return for a strong infrastructure, public health care, and a very well-financed welfare system.  And the government even publishes everyone's annual salary.

As for Italy and Switzerland, I've only traveled to them and talked to people who live there as ex-pats.  I've never lived there myself.

I think you should look up the details of the places on your short list or ask this question again outlining what kinds of things you're looking for in a new country.  This may be difficult, since you may not know yourself, but it's a good time to think about it.  We moved through four different countries before we found a place that really fit.

As for the immigration issues, depending on what industry you work in, you may or may not be able to find employment in advance.  If you're flexible and you have plenty of savings to fall back on, you can probably find *something* just about anywhere.

  10. I always said that I would move to Canada simply because its not too far away.....you never hear Canadians talking about war or terrorist....plus...Canadians are nice and they know how to party.

  11. i want to move to switzerland. I went on vacation there once and its beautiful and everyone is soooo nice. But, its expensive to live there. I was checkin and it seems the cheapest place to live is amsterdam, so I may be moving there.....

  12. Stay in the United States of America. It's the home of the free and the brave. You can't find that anywhere else, holla!
