You cannot designate the AK, and it is not by law, different than any other automatically firing rifle. Although higher caliber than most, having a massive velocity compared to bullet's whose case is the same width as the slug, and with a high content of hardened steel the slug, at least the originally m43 model, giving it the highest body armor piercing rating i know of, its still just an assault rifle.

Alot of counties, including of here in Canada, automatically-firing weapons are barred to all but military personnel. It could me an ak47, m16, or... a m134 Gatling gun, which technically some can humanly fire I've heard.

So, yeah... though if you're not afraid of jail, one might technicality be able to modify a semi-auto, but.... enjoy trying.

There are two types of aks semi auto and select fire(full and semi)both are legal in us (with exeption of a couple states..) Canada I believe they classify it as an illigal assault rifle. Europe in most countrys guns cannot be bought legally. Most countries in Africa may have laws on weapons but do not enforce them.as for Mexico I believe u cannot own firearms.

NOT in Mexico.  In Mexico civilians and even tourists can and do go to jail merely for possessing ammo that is considered "military spec or caliber."  And their interpretation of "military spec" is VERY broad.  In other words, you can go to jail for possessing one or two .22 rimfire cartridges.  

Back to your question, what countrys are ak 47s legal in?  Odd question, do you intend to move to another country in order to be able to legally own an AK-47?  Before you do anything as radical as that, relax!  You can own an AK-47 in the good, ole USA!  Proviso is that it can't be full-auto!  Now if you can comply with all the legalize (background check, cost of full-auto stamp, find an AK-47 built before '86 and someone willing to part with it for less than $10,000 US dollars) guess, what, you too can own a full-auto AK in something like 36 out of 50 States of the USA!

Here in the US and for now, that's all I care about. I can't do anything about the laws in other countries nor do I wish to. I only wish other countries would stop trying to meddle in ours.

Most of America. Many countries all over Africa and the middle East. Isreal also has lax gun laws so there legal but I bet you see more guns of western manufacture.
