Why are the countries called Latin?  It comes from the language.  The Spanish language developed from Latin.  As does French, Portuguese and Italian.  Are you looking for the countries at one time that were under the rule of the Roman Empire?  

In the States, you will hear the term Latin America.  I believe this refers to the countries South of the US which contain decendents of the Spanish conquistadors.
