What counts as an extracurricular activity?

Currently I own my own graphics site and I was wondering if that counts as an extracurricular since it's a hobby. If it does, then when applying for college should I provide the url?

Also, I'm in the school orchestra. We do have after school rehearsals once in awhile so would that count too? and for the approx hours would it include class hours or just after school hours?

  1. "Extra-curricular" usually includes school-sponsored activities that are optional.  Band/orchestra, choir/gleeclub, school newspaper, clubs and organizations, pep/cheer groups, and so on.  Your hobby should be listed as a hobby or interest, and you can include the url if you want but they may not care or ever check it out.  I think your hours in-school for orchestra would be graded as a class and appear on your transcript, but rehearsels and performances are definitely extra-curricular.  For time, you can just put "variable/per week".

  2. i don't think so extra curricular activities are after school. i am going to join guitar club, HOSA, math and science club, robotics team, student council, and Y.E.S. its a lot i know. those count.

  3. I think the site would be a great thing to list on an application, but I'm not sure if you would want to list it as an extracurricular.  When I think extracurricular, I think after school clubs, organizations, sports, and volunteer work.  It sounds like your orchestra would fit in here.  I would just list the after school hours, because the during school hours will be listed on your transcript as a class.

  4. You could mention it, but I wouldn't bother with providing the URL because I think they'll just want a general idea of what you do.

The orchestra is extra-curricular. I'd say it includes both class & after school hours. Also, things like sports teams count.
