  1. The part that was true did not happen in Texas.

  2. The TCM is not a true story, but is LOOSELY BASED on Ed Gein, a serial killer from Wisconsin back in the 1950's. But he never used a chainsaw, and the one person is correct saying Tobe Hooper got the idea for the chainsaw in a hardware store. It was actually him thinking of a way to get out of the store faster and "cut through" the crowd. Yes, pun intended! hahaha. :)

Anyway, I know that in the original 1974, and the 2003 remake, it takes place in Travis County. A great web site with TONS of info on the TCM (especially the original), which is run by a guy who is considered the authority on all things TCM, is www.texaschainsawmassacre.net.

  3. First of all, this is only sort of true.  The writer/director of the movie Tobe Hooper got the idea by going thru Montgomery Wards and seeing a whole bunch of Chainsaws standing up together in a row. (chainsaw massacre idea)

The bit about the character Leatherface was based from a guy here in WI by the name of Ed Gein who was a cannibalistic grave robber.
