Question:

What covers the designs on the inside of kid's clothes?

Children's clothing with embroidered designs have a piece of white fabric adhered over the design on the inside of the clothes. It looks almost like a dryer sheet. I'm wondering what that fabric is and if it's something available at most fabric stores.

  1. I know exactly what you are talking about but I can not think of the name of it.  Why not cut a piece out and take it to the fabric store and see if they have any.

  2. Stabilizer.  Careful, though.  Some is water soluble and will disappear after getting wet.

  3. Its called interfacing.  Its used to give body to clothing and for an embroidered item its a backing to insure the stitching doesn't pull through or compromise the shirt.

You can buy iron-on interfacing that if you are sewing a collar for example it will stay stiffly in place and not bunch up.  You can buy it by the package or at Joann's you can also buy it by the yard, depending on what you're project is! Good luck!
