Question:

What crazy insect is this, eating my pomegranite tree? (pic included)?

Please help me ID the little punks,

They're brown, about 1.5mm long (tiny), and the picture included shows them (i think it's the same insect) at two stages... with wings, and as just a bug, bug.

could it be the early stages of whitefly? because I get these in summer (and the photo's taken in winter).

Also... how do i get rid of them? the pomegranite tree is HUGE so i can't vacum them up or spray every leaf with insecticide (as suggested by google).

Any help would be much appreciated by me and my miserable giant pomegranite tree.

Thanks thanks thanks HEAPS in advance.

  1. First, I don't think they will kill your tree.

Second the best time to start controlling insects is the spring.  Call your local extension office and ask them to identify the bug  and get their suggestions for control.

  2. Looks like termites to me.

Get a professional exterminator, it might be too late to save your tree though.
