  1. that would be the engine and the exhaust combined but mainly it comes directly from the engine.

  3. The exhaust on an F1 car is to simply get the exhaust gases away from the car whilst having the least effect on power, aerodynamics and heat retention, there is no effort made to lower the sound.

    The engine in an F1 car also over three times as highly as an average road engine at 19,000rpm which is what gives it that high pitch sound.

    So it's a combination of an open exhaust and an extremely high revving engine.
