What creature is this?

as he stared into the hole he saw them crawling.. he could see there red eyes, black teeth and white tongue lashing back and forth......as one leaped from the hole the boys eyes felt watery and he felt light headed and then everything went black

Ummm...

The only animal that had 'purposely' black teeth I can think of is a Saber-toothed cat. And the only thing with a white tongue I can think of is an animal with some type of disease. There is a disease known as White tongue. As for the red eyes, many animal eyes seem to change at night.

My best guess would be a diseased Saber-toothed cat (cub since they're in a hole) at night.

Other than that I have no clue. Is this a trick question?
