What criteria do you use to know if someone is smart?

IQ, education, "streetwise",experiences, common sense, views, knowledge, what do you base on to say "he/she is smart?, also how smart do you consider yourself?

smart is how quicklly a person catch's on or how quick they learn AND retain.

I myself concider myself smart with a catch,- I forget as soon as possible. IF I'm not using the info. I've learned I forget and dont look back. I dont have .a photogaphic memory. Like my horrible spelling. I'm not a office person and could care less if it's spelt wrong. I guess you could say obsessive compulsive people would be the smartest. Anoying as h**l, but smart, clean, nicer houses, ect.....

What I consider smart is someone who doesn't have a linear view on a specific topic, but can see different points of view, and understand that every point of view has a meaning and a purpose. I'm smart :)

a combination of all those things are important. I see someone as intelligent when they know a little bit about everything- they can talk sports, art, music, politics, religion, business, health care, etc. Also someone who is street smart, yes. You can be the most book smart person alive, but if you have zero street smarts, well, that's just not good.

Personally i think of perception, both the ability to understand wheresome one is coming from, or how they look at something, and also the ability to look at something in a completely new light. I consider myself smart, because while im not the top scorer when it comes to books, ive noticed that my "common sense" is very different from others "common sense" which sometimes allows me to quickly come up with creative solutions to problems.

i also like that other multiple intelligences theory, the musical/spatial/kinestheic/etc.
